The DVF month of women continues, and last week our store in Madrid celebrated International Women’s Day with an evening to benefit Vital Voices. The event was hosted by Maria Eugenia Giron, the founder of the Madrid chapter of the International Women’s Forum and one of Spain’s top female business leaders!

MADRID OPENING

Many, many decades ago, when I was 17, I lived in Madrid for one year. I was registered at the University, and was studying Spain and Spanish culture. It was a different Spain then, under the dictator Franco and the whole mood was quite dark. There were many wounded veterans from the Spanish war in the streets and lots of student strikes. But Spain changed in the 80’s, Felipe Gonzalez and the King Juan Carlo brought democracy and freedom. La Movida was born, a movement of freedom in the arts and in the streets that was for ever eternalized with the movies of Pedro Almodovar.
