FASHION CURE
Monday, September 28th, 2009

DVF participated in the 8th annual Susan G. Komen Fashion for the Cure event last Thursday… and it was a great success!

Instead of a typical Hollywood red carpet, guests walked across a pink carpet honoring breast cancer, and kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness month starting in October. Eliza Dushku hosted the event, and spoke about her godmother whom she lost to a breast cancer fight just within the last year; after she spoke about her experiences with the disease Eliza, proudly introduced the DVF 2009/2010 Resort collection. The lights dimmed, the music turned up and the beautiful pieces of resort graced the runway on models and notables such as Denise Richards, Mya, and Caroline D’Amore. But nothing was more special than the moment the survivor models took their moment in the spotlight and showed their strength of survival as they presented a piece from the DVF collection. The guests stood on their feet cheered the models down the runway as they had an opportunity to shine. The survivor models consisted of a courageous group of women who have beaten cancer and are now making a difference in their own communities.

We are so happy to be a part of an event and organization that is making a difference in women’s lives in the community, and around the nation to fight breast cancer.

LA WOMEN
Monday, May 18th, 2009

Last week DVF Los Angeles had a special visit from DVF president Paula Sutter, Abigail Klem and Kate Berg. The New York DVF’ers invited their LA friends and DVF fans to a special shopping night to celebrate the arrival of the Pre-Fall collection. Melrose neighbors Warren Tricomi Salon joined in the party and gave guests hair and makeup treatments as they sipped on mojitos and tried on new pieces from the ethereal Summer in the City collection.  Favorites of the night…the Mazerine dress in Ink Flower and the Deena in Sea Garden (which Kate put her own spin on by wearing backwards!)

L.A. WOMEN
Thursday, March 26th, 2009

The International Women’s Day celebration continued in Los Angeles this past Monday at the L.A. shop. Elle partnered with DVF for the event, and the evening was hosted by Tatiana von Furstenberg and benefited the Somaly Mam Foundation.

Tatiana opened the evening with words of gratitude to everyone who attended

“Thank you all for coming with an open mind and an open heart. There is a lot of good will in this room. We all have a lifetime of resources…vitality, years of energy, skills, love to share, connections to make and financial support to give. It’s not always easy to find a way to express one’s good will and channel it. But together, we can pool our collective strength and contribute to creating a better world.”

There’s an unsaid saying in New York that once a spot gets written about in the NY Times Style section, it might good as well be over, or at least over capacity, meaning good chance getting any type of reservation. This holds especially true for the Boite section, which profiles exactly that, a newish place to wine and/or dine. So when we saw the blip about LA’s Palihouse hotel, bar, restaurant – what have you – we were intrigued. Even more so by the fact that someone else had mentioned it just a week’s prior as the best place they’d been since before the Back Room got discovered.

So, DVF answered the call and it did, as the NYT described, remind us of a loft in NYC. But the kind of loft that has worn in club chairs, a DJ desk – not booth – and other flea market-esque finds that have been spruced up for general consumption. Speaking of consumption, The Hall brasserie didn’t dissapoint either. The raw bar was fresh, the salads hearty (it is L.A. after all) and the macaroni gratin was beyond.

But despite all the buzz and the requisite woman with clipboard at the front, the entire experience was suprisingly low-key.

What: Palihouse, 8465 Halloway Drive, West Hollywood
Wear: Hazelle Top in Canvas or Brygid Dress in blue and white
