The International Women’s Day celebration continued last night at DVF’s LA store with a night of inspiration, shopping and music. Special hosts Sally Field and Robyn Ross were all in attendance along with Rebecca Lolosoli, a Vital Voices Global Leader. Rebecca uses her jewelry and beadwork to provide refuge for women in conflict in her home country, Kenya. Mozella, one of artists featured on Proud to Be Woman, was in attendance and gave an inspiring performance to highlight the evening.

What a weekend!! What an amazing group of women, panels, discussions… organized by Tina Brown and The Daily Beast. From the speech of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, introducing the play 7 and the work of Vital Voices, to Kiran Bedi, India’s highest ranking woman in the leadership of India’s Police Service, to Wei Christianson, CEO of Morgan Stanley China and Valerie Jarrett…the list was impressive and unique. On Saturday night, at the UN, there was a dinner and first presentation of what will now be the Annual DVF AWARDS!! The presenters, Christiane Amanpour, Melanne Verveer, Robin Roberts and Mery Streep were as special as the honorees, Sadiqa Basiri Saleem, Daniele Saint Lot, Katherine Chon and Ingrid Betancourt and made for a very inspiring and special evening.

The 2 questions people kept on asking all during Oscar weekend were, “Will it rain?” and “Will Kathryn Bigelow get best picture?”…both answers were YES!!

But somehow our annual picnic was rainless and a lot of fun… By Oscar night I was exhausted and after the Vanity Fair party I went to sleep missing the Madonna party where people danced until dawn!!

Monday, March 8th DVF hosted an event to celebrate International Women’s Day with the release the Proud to Be Woman compilation CD for Vital Voices and a Proud to Be Woman tote bag. Grammy award winner and featured artist Estelle was in attendance along with Panmela Castro-Anarkia, Brazilian artist and Alyse Nelson, Vital Voices chair. Check out the photos on Facebook from the event. Now through March 15th, 10% of all sales at DVF.com and DVF stores will be donated to Vital Voices.

This weekend, March 12^th – 14^th, powerful women leaders will gather for the first annual Women in the World Summit held in New York City. The event which is co-hosted by The Daily Beast, DVF, Vital Voices and the UN foundation will showcase the stories of outstanding women fighting to combat sex trafficking, child marriage, and other challenges that continue to plague women and girls. On Saturday evening, the DVF awards will be presented by Diane von Furstenberg and Tina Brown to recognize women who through their courage, leadership, vision and commitment have help to transform the lives of other women worldwide.
