IWD LOS ANGELES

March 26th, 2009

The International Women’s Day celebration continued in Los Angeles this past Monday at the L.A. shop. Elle partnered with DVF for the event, and the evening was hosted by Tatiana von Furstenberg and benefited the Somaly Mam Foundation.

Tatiana opened the evening with words of gratitude to everyone who attended:

Thank you all for coming with an open mind and an open heart. There is a lot of good will in this room. We all have a lifetime of resources…vitality, years of energy, skills, love to share, connections to make and financial support to give. It’s not always easy to find a way to express one’s good will and channel it. But together, we can pool our collective strength and contribute to creating a better world.

The shop was filled with different generations of women from Betsy Bloomingdale to DVFer Whitney Port to Antonia Steinberg (Tatiana’s 8 year old daughter). Alyse Bloom, President of Vital Voices and Somaly Mam, Cambodian human rights advocate also spoke to the crowd, leaving everyone in the room touched by their message of empowerment and giving.
