OSCAR WEEKEND
February 24th, 2009

with Konstantin and Christian
This year Fashion Week finished just in time for Oscar weekend in L.A., so by the time I got to the City of Angels, I was exhausted and eager to sleep, but sleeping is not on the agenda.
Friday night: dinner at Sandy Gallin’s amazing house in Beverly Hills where Leonardo DiCaprio, Calvin Klein, Tom Ford, Barbara Streisand and Oprah Winfrey mingle together eating sushi. A bit later Bryan Lourd’s pre-Oscar bash. I sit by the fire next to Marisa Tomei and we watch people coming in….Demi Moore looks ravishing in a leopard gown… I am too tired to stay too late.
Next day, Saturday is our annual Picnic for Graydon Carter… hundreds of people come (even though we try so hard to make the list small) and sit on the lawn… it is a very fun party! Every year Barry worries about the weather and so far every year the weather has been fine (but before the lunch we go for a hike and check the clouds). Later that afternoon there is a tea at Chateau Marmont where the Rodarte girls showed their beautiful clothes, a party given by Jeff Katzenberg at the Beverly Hotel and another one hosted by Harvey Weinstein and Valentino, but I missed them all and stayed home with my family.
Oscar Day (a bit drizzly) at 5pm we go to dinner and watch the show at Vanity Fair’s annual bash, this year at Jeff Klein’s Sunset Tower Hotel. The crowd is elegant and fun and everyone wants to shake hands with the hero of the year, pilot Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger, III. We sit and watch the show at Graydon and Anna Carter’s table with Fran Lebowitz, Kelly Lynch and her husband Mitch Glazer. Big TVs are installed everywhere and the show starts with a bang… Hugh Jackman is great… Angelica Huston honors me wearing a DVF dress. I love the show!
After the show, the party moves to the tented pool and the crowds fill in….Nicole Kidman, light as a bird of paradise walks in with her sexy husband Keith Urban. Tom Ford, Zac Posen, Tory Burch, and Carolina Herrera represent the fashion world, while Christian Louboutin counts the red soles! Mick Jagger and the glamorous L’Wren Scott, Maureen Dowd, and Daniel Craig looking slick… Meryl Streep and her gorgeous daughter… We leave quite early with the intention of finishing the night at Guy Oseary’s, where Madonna and Demi are hosting the late party. We stop at our house to pick up my son Alexandre and his fiancee Ali… Tatiana also is supposed to join us, but everyone gets lazy… we talk and talk… no one has the courage to get up and drive up the hill… we all go to sleep. I know we missed a great party…everyone showed up and danced through the night.
Oh well, there will always be next year!
