Fan Sweater Dress

The Holiday party season is fast approaching and before you know it your social calendar will be filled with after work obligations every night of the week. Breathe. That’s what DVF is here for, to help you get your holiday wardrobe in order before you can say “another glass of champagne please.” The fan favorite over here just happens to be the Fan dress, the perfect LBD but with a twist, or rather a twirl. On first glance it’s your basic black wool sweater dress with poufy sleeves, but upon closer examination it will have people doing a double take. The scalloped shoulders add just the right amount of volume and the sequin detail makes it more festive if you need it to be, but is subtle enough that you won’t look like you’re going to a party if you wear it to work – even though you might be.

After months of campaign commercials, debates, and news stories it all boils down to next Tuesday, November 4th. That means that by this time next week (barring any unforeseen chad-tastrophes), we will have a new president. And if you haven’t done anything to support either candidate it’s not too late, because you can still do the most important thing – VOTE. No excuses!

On October 23rd, Diane traveled to Japan to celebrate the opening of the second DVF shop in Tokyo. Located in Roppongi Hills the new shop was the site of a full-on fête, complete with spinning from DJ Fantastic Plastic Machine. Even fellow New Yorker Charlotte Ronson was there (she was in town for her own show). Models, clients, and our Japanese partners were all clad in DVF, inspiring Diane to gather the whole group for a photo op….say DVF!

Tokyo is the quintessential modern city and I always love going there. We opened our 2nd store in Roppongi Hills at the end of October and it looked gorgeous. It has a concrete staircase made of Swarovski crystal mirrors like the one from our headquarters in NY, and the iconic mural of Warhol makes the whole shop feel very unique and glamorous.

Between interviews and visits to stores, I spoke to hundreds of Design students at Bunka University. The opening started in the shop and ended on the top of the Mori buildings…hundreds of gorgeous young women dressed in DVF made me feel so proud and welcome!!

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s impact on fashion and culture has been a well-documented phenomenon ever since they were old enough to say “Balenciaga.” But now as established designers in their own right with The Row and Elizabeth and James, the stylish sisters are turning the tables and talking about what inspires them in their new book Influence. The new tome is a compilation of interviews they conducted with creative visionaries, including Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin, and yes, Diane herself.

Diane talks with the twins about everything from her curly hair to her design process, and, of course, the iconic wrap dress (there’s even a little how-to-tie it diagram). Diane promises to visit their studio (she did during this past Fashion Week, and was very impressed with The Row), and leaves them with this lesson…
